Novauris has been named winner of the "Investors' Choice" award at the PlugandPlay Expo, held in May in Sunnyvale California.
Of 200 hi-tech companies applying to participate, Novauris was among the 47 to be selected, and it went on to be named a winner by the judges, whose criteria were:
  1. Uniqueness of technology and product
  2. Potential impact in the market
Around 400 people registered to attend the Expo, where they heard keynote addresses by Daniel Lewin, Microsoft Corporation Vice President, Strategic and Emerging Business Development, and Dinesh Bahal, Vice President, Sun Microsystems. They then saw brief presentations from all 47 participating companies and then had the opportunity of a two-hour period to have individual discussions and see demonstrations by the company representatives. Novauris representative, Dr Yoon Kim, provided demonstrations of the Novauris-powered Verizon Wireless Get It Now Search application, as well as showing how any basic street address in the US can be recognized from a single input either over a communications network or entirely locally on a handheld device (a Samsung i780 smart phone in this case).
Expo organizer, Ryan Stevenson, said:
"I personally share the judges' belief that Novauris technology will revolutionize the way people will interact with their mobile device and has the ability to expand into other use cases. We are at the very beginning of the voice revolution and think that Novauris is well positioned to take full advantage of this tremendous market opportunity."
Jason Kinkaid attended the Expo on behalf of TechCrunch. In his review, he picked out just two participating companies for positive mention, one of which was Novauris.
Novauris CEO, Yoon Kim, says:
"We are honored and excited to be selected as a winner from among some of the most promising startups in the Silicon Valley and beyond. Being named an Investors' Choice company by the leading venture capitalists, corporations and angel investors further validates the uniqueness and value of our technology, our execution and deployment capabilities and the market potential of voice search for mobile devices and applications."
On learning of the award, the British government's UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) organisation issued a press release. In it, UKTI International Trade Advisor, Graham Symonds, is quoted as saying:
"I am delighted to see outstanding technology from companies such as Novauris getting recognized in the highly competitive environment of the Silicon Valley."
